Ask anyone: "What would you expect to eat at a picnic?" The most likely answer: "Sandwiches, of course!". Sandwiches are the ultimate portable picnic food. Quite healthy too - as most sandwiches contain carbohydrates, protein and fruit/veggies all in one bite.

Most of these sandwich recipes are best made with a sturdy bread — like a baguette or ciabatta; breads that have a relatively dense texture and won’t go too soggy in transport. Pita bread, tortilla's and lavash are also excellent choices (especially if they are whole wheat). If you have a bread machine, consider making your own sandwich bread with one of our bread recipes.
