Location

The first step is to select your location. A picnic at home is not only convenient, but also perfect for romantic picnics or teddy bear picnics. The living room floor seems like the most obvious place, but you could also consider the kitchen or even your bedroom.

You could also take your indoor picnic on the road. Consider a garden atrium or surprise your spouse at work.

Set the Scene

Consider setting a theme for your indoor picnic. Will you be at the beach or at your favourite park? The joy of doing this at home is that you can be as crazy as you wish.

With a beach setting, you could all sit on beach towels in your swimsuits. A picnic in the park? Spread a few plastic bugs around your picnic blanket. Light up the fireplace and roast marshmallows and sing campfire songs. Or if you're going for romance, light up a few candles. Don't forget the music! Play a CD with nature sounds, ocean sounds, your favourite romantic songs ...

A definite advantage to an indoor picnic at home is having access to your kitchen! There are no worries about storing your food safely or whether or not there is a grill at your picnic location. All you have to do is plan your meal ahead of time and make sure to have everything you need in the refrigerator.
