Iced Green Tea Recipe

Enjoying a hot summer picnic? Replenish your fluids with this healthy and refreshing iced green tea recipe.

Healthy Tip:

Green tea is chock full of antioxidants, helping to inhibit the growth of cancer cells, lower cholesterol and inhibit the abnormal formation of blood clots.

Ingredients:

2 liters water
(8 cups)
50 ml (1/4 cup) loose green tea leaves
or 8 standard green tea bags
50 ml (1/4 cup) sugar (more/less, to taste)
2 lemons thinly sliced
mint leaves (optional)

Please note that green teas are much more delicate and should not be brewed with boiling water or steeped as long as black teas. Brew it with water that is between 175°F (79°C) and 180°F (82°C) and let it steep for about 2 minutes.

Bring water to a boil. Put tea leaves in a heatproof bowl or large teapot. Bring water just to a boil, remove from heat and let cool to the optimum temperature. Pour over tea leaves/tea bags, stir, and let stand 1 to 2 minutes.

Strain through a fine wire-mesh sieve or coffee filter into a pitcher. Sweeten to taste before cooling. If you’re not sweetening the tea, cool completely and serve over ice with lemon slices and/or mint.
