Fall Picnic Ideas

A fall picnic is a wonderful way to welcome autumn and all its colourful splendor!

It won't be long before you have to put the bikes and summer sandals away and say goodbye to another season of warm sun and outdoor fun. With a little planning and your prepared picnic kit you and your family will be able to get outdoors and enjoy the fall season to its fullest.

Need some great fall picnic ideas?

  • Kids Scavenger Hunt
Have them find a specific coloured leaf, perhaps the biggest leaf, the smallest ...

  • Get Crafty
Take along a baggie and fill it with with your favourite, most colourful leaves. When you get back home pull out the glue and create fun and original pictures with your leaves.

  • Go Fly a Kite!
It is often windy in the fall. Flying a kite is great for both romantic picnics and family picnics.

  • Rake 'em up!
Bring along a rake to your fall picnic. Rake up a big pile of leaves and jump in!

  • Toss It!
Bring along a frisbee, football, or ball and gloves.

  • Picture This!
Don't forget the camera. Fall colours are amazing!

Plan a delicious fall menu:

Sandwiches are always a picnic staple; however, as the weather turns cooler you may consider bringing a few warmer foods along. Such things as a high quality Insulated Vacuum Bottle of piping hot homemade soup or chili would taste great on a cool fall day. Or, for an extra-special treat, fill that bottle with a hot drink or gourmet hot chocolate!

Autumn also brings a wonderful bounty of fresh fruit and vegetables. A crisp apple, a juicy pear or some crunchy carrots are great for eating out of hand at a picnic. Or you could make up a batch of cranberry orange muffins, carrot-zucchini muffins or some apple spice cookies. (They are a great accompaniment to that thermos full of gourmet hot chocolate!)

Autumn weather can also bring some morning dew. A great way to keep your bottom dry is with a cozy picnic blanket with a waterproof backing.
